No,
not the tomato condiment you slather on French fries and greasy hamburgers, but
an amusing remark from an old friend who used to send a note to me that it had
been too long between visits and we needed to ‘ketchup’ – got it?
You are
free to use that phrase, might get you a smile, or might get you an invitation
to a wonderful lunch where you have a good chat up.
Let me
start the year with something I bumped into along my way reading everything I
could put my hands on after my fall before Christmas.
I subscribe
to The Epoch Times, a conservative newspaper that is a treasure trove of
articles. [Link in the notes section

“He who would accomplish little need
sacrifice little. He who would achieve
much must sacrifice much. He who would
attain highly must sacrifice greatly.” – James Allen
That’s
a nugget of wisdom for you as everyone is pursuing their 2022 New Year’s
resolutions.
How
are your resolutions coming along? Eh?.
. . Good? . . . Awesome!
For
those of you who haven’t gotten to the nirvana of your 2002 resolutions, I am
here to the rescue with reading material from James Allen a British philosophical
writer [1864-1912] – with several books still in print.
“A man sooner or later discovers that he is
the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life.”
Below
is a link to his 20-page “As a Man Thinketh,” in PDF format for you to read and
sit with a while. It might be just the
thing to pass along to a floundering child or grandchild or contemporary. We all have our moments when we need a bit of
“pull-up-our-bootstraps” to get out of a funk or to change directions.
The
cited work has merely seven chapters, from Thought and Character, through to
Visions and Ideals and lastly, Serenity.
If you’ve never read it, it is worth the read. If you’ve read it before – maybe you are due
for a re-read to refresh your soul, your thoughts, your actions. Just maybe, it will help you stay in the lane
of getting to where you want to go this year.
“They themselves are makers of themselves.”
Until
next time, stay well.
