September 15, 2019 – Oui – as in Yogurt

I shop for specific things every four to six weeks at one particular store. They are sort of “treats” for me – quality things I particularly like. Today’s list included:

Meyers Clean Day Dish Shop – love the Geranium Scent.

Mackays Ginger Preserve which I spoon over salmon and bake in foil.

Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Solid White Albacore – in Water.

Voss water – tall and easy to refill the water bottle.

           KA◦ME Rice crackers

Oui French Style Yogurt – Vanilla.

A while back, I noticed the little 5 oz. glass jars entitled: French Style Yogurt OUI by Yoplait. I bought two and fell in love on the first spoonful.  Why, because it tasted like I made it. YES – I think it is because it is in a glass vessel.

Today it was on sale and I managed to snap up two vanilla Oui yogurts and on the way home my brain said – I wondered why there aren’t little covers to put on these so that I can reuse them.  Yes, I am one of those crazies – who home makes things from scratch – like yogurt.

In 1979 I bought a book entitled : Better than Store Bought – A cookbook.  Authoritative recipes for the foods that most people never knew they could make at home by Helen Witty and Elizabeth Schneider Colchie.  If you ever find one in a used bookstore or on-line – take my word and buy it – you will love it.

Mine is dog-eared from years of use and will always be on my cookbook shelf.  Yogurt, sauerkraut, pickles, you name it – I’ve tried lots of things over the years and I remember yogurt came out perfect – the first time.  Yogurt making is actually very simple – it has to do with time and temperature.

This afternoon, when I was researching the Oui brand I did find Oui plastic covers available to purchase for reusing these little jars.  Now that is a great WIN-Win idea, and a YES-YES – fist pump thought, but actually more accurately - Oui, Oui!  I only regret I didn’t know about these sooner.

I will probably collect the glass jars now – and when I get a bunch I will make a batch of Yogurt – but I will probably just use them for lunch portions – a portion of tuna fish salad surrounded by short pieces of celery stalk easily came to mind.  Maybe left overs – that one serving of something.

Then I remembered being in an upper crust bar/restaurant on the main street of Rutherfordton a few years back - shame it didn’t last – but it had single serving desserts in little glass vessels that were just a few bites. Yum.  That would be fun – make single serving parfaits and slap covers on them for “picnics”.
